Why I’m Running

During the last election cycle, I felt helpless. I watched as the government took away protections from LGBTQ and illegal immigrants. I watched mass shootings occur with nothing being done to stop them from occurring again. Ive seen the government deny there was a pandemic because it was going to affect the bottom line for their business associates.

I watched people supporting black lives matter and I’ve seen ignorant people say all lives matter. It is true. All lives do matter. But black lives are the ones that are being threatened. Threatened by the people that are supposed to make them safe, to keep them safe. If you can’t trust authority then it’s not doing anything for you.

I am not going to pretend that I have any kind of answer. What I have is experience and personal stories that people have shared with me. I’ve been on ride along‘s with the SAPD where a person wouldn’t have been arrested if they just tried to be civil. I’ve been on ride along‘s where a person was completely respectful and the officers let them turn themselves in later. I have seen everything in between those two extremes. No interaction follows any sort of templates.
